Overview:

The Trainman is a uniformed passenger service employee that rides the train and is responsible for the safety of all passengers and crew onboard. In addition to maintaining safety, the Trainman is also responsible for timely departures, boarding passengers, collecting tickets, and interacting with guests. As a stereotypical image of American passenger railroading, the Trainman is one of the individuals that guests are looking forward to interacting with the most.

The Trainman is a direct representative of the WCRR and, as such, must maintain a professional and authoritative presence and appearance. It’s paramount to make an excellent impression by providing the highest level of customer service.

Responsibilities:
  • Must be familiar and comply with all WCRR safety rules and policies.
  • Engage customers in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Must be familiar with the layout and use of all passenger equipment.
  • Must be familiar with the geography of the railroad.
  • Provide onboard announcements.
  • Board/de-board passengers.
  • Assist with any passenger needs.
  • Collect/punch tickets.
  • Communicate with locomotive crew.
  • Complete daily paperwork.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of all WCRR excursions including scheduling & pricing.
  • Cleanliness and neatness of passenger equipment.
  • Coordinate any special needs for groups, parties or charters as instructed by the Station Master.
  • Report any unusual activity, safety concerns, etc. to the Station Master.
Skills Required:
  • Friendly, cooperative, patient, and informative.

Overview:

The Ticket Agent operates and maintains the Railroad Ticket Office. He/she redeems online reservations in form of a “confirmation page” OR collects payment in form of cash or credit card, in exchange for tickets to ride the train. In some scenarios, the Ticket Agent is the first employee our guests will encounter. It’s paramount to make an excellent first impression, by providing the highest level of customer service.

Additionally, the Ticket Agent acts as an information center for the Railroad, and in some cases the town of Woodstown.

Responsibilities:
  • Must be familiar and comply with all WCRR safety rules and policies.
  • Engage customers in a friendly and professional manner. Answer all questions thoroughly and coordinate all transactions in a manner that will ensure on-time departures.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of all WCRR excursions including scheduling & pricing.
  • Properly enter cash and credit card transactions into P.O.S. (Handle cash and provide change with accuracy).
  • Provide each customer with tickets and a receipt.
  • Provide station announcements as needed.
  • Communicate with train crew.
  • Complete daily paperwork.
  • Coordinate any special needs for groups, parties or charters as instructed by the Station Master.
  • Deposit cash into safe accordingly.
  • Cleanliness and neatness of interior and exterior of station structure.
  • Report any unusual activity, safety concerns, repairs needed, etc. to the Manager on Duty immediately.
  • Complete any “side work” as instructed by the Station Master.
Skills Required:
  • Friendly, cooperative, patient, and informative.
  • Thorough knowledge of WCRR ticketing system.

Overview:

The Red Cap is a uniformed passenger service employee that provides an off-train presence around the depot. He/she acts as an information center for the Railroad by providing guidance to guests who are unfamiliar with our operation. The Red Cap helps with crowd control and provides special assistance to large groups, parties, and charters as well as light duties around the station such as cleaning, and restocking. The Red Cap is a highly interactive role with guests. It’s paramount to make an excellent impression by providing the highest level of customer service.

  • Engage all customers in a friendly and professional way. Answer questions thoroughly in a manner that will ensure on-time departures.
  • Provide station announcements as needed.

  • Cleanliness and neatness of station, restrooms, platform, and parking lot.
  • Coordinate any special needs for groups, parties or charters as instructed by the Station Master.

  • Report any unusual activity, safety concerns, repairs needed, etc. to the Manager on Duty immediately.

The Gift Shop Attendant operates and maintains the Railroad Gift/Souvenir Shop. He/she enters sales transactions into the Point-of-Sale system, manages same day inventory and interacts with railroad guests. The Gift Shop Attendant must be familiar with all gift shop inventory and pricing, train operations, schedules, and ticket prices to intelligently answer any questions that may be encountered. The Gift Shop Attendant is a direct representative of the WCRR and, as such, must maintain a professional and authoritative presence and appearance. It’s paramount to make an excellent impression by providing the highest level of customer service.

Responsibilities:
  • Must be familiar and comply with all WCRR safety rules and policies.
  • Always engage customers and answer questions in a friendly manner.
  • Thorough understanding of all WCRR gift shop merchandise.
  • Properly enter cash and credit card transactions into P.O.S. (Handle cash and provide change with accuracy).
  • Provide each customer with a receipt.
  • Assist customers with finding inventory, sizes, etc.
  • Stock inventory as needed.
  • Oversee guests and their actions. Maintain awareness for theft.
  • Report any low stock items to the Station Master.
  • Cleanliness and neatness of interior and immediate exterior of Gift Shop
  • Provide any additional information/ literature to customers.
  • Thorough understanding of all WCRR excursions including scheduling, pricing, capacities and applicable discounts or promotions.
  • Report any unusual activity, safety concerns, repairs needed, product expiration, defective merchandise, etc. to the Manager on Duty immediately.
  • Complete any “side work” as instructed by the Manager of Duty.
  • Maintain “lost and found” items.

  • Provide onboard concession service to passengers.
  • Properly enter cash and credit card transactions into P.O.S. (Handle cash and provide change with accuracy).
  • Thorough understanding of all onboard concession inventory and pricing.
  • Stock inventory and supplies as needed.
  • Cleanliness and neatness of First-Class car including restrooms and closets.
  • Must be familiar with the layout and use of all passenger equipment.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of all WCRR excursions including scheduling & pricing.
  • Complete daily paperwork.
  • Coordinate any special needs for groups, parties or charters as instructed by the Trainman.
  • Report any unusual activity, safety concerns, repairs needed, etc. to the Trainman.
